Church Trip To Eureka Springs Arkansas
May 22-25, 1998

Recently we took our first Church Trip to Eureka Springs Arkansas. We chartered a bus through Freedom Tours of South Point Ohio. Our tour guide was Josett Gibson, the owner of Freedom Tours.

The Tour Bus picked us up Friday morning in Pikeville, Kentucky at 7:00 A.M. and we drove to St. Louis, Missouri to spend the night.

The route from Pikeville, Kentucky to St. Louis, Missouri took us through Northwestern Kentucky, Southern Illinois, and Southern Indiana.

Upon arriving in St. Louis, Missouri, we got to see the famous Gateway To The West Arch.

We also got to stop and eat at Lambert's Cafe.

There are only three of these in the United States. Lambert's is the home of the "throwed rolls", yep that's right...they throw rolls at you! You had better be a good catch or your dinner will end up on the floor!

We then headed out Saturday Morning to Eureka Springs Arkansas. We arrived Saturday Evening and spent the evening just touring this historic town.
The kids (and adults...hehehe) had fun at the fun spot that was located next to the motel. They had go-carts, put-put golf, batting ranges, water boats, and several arcades for fun for all ages.

Joshua O'Quinn and Scarlett Pinson on the Waterboats!

On Sunday morning we took the New Holy Land Tour. One of the attractions was the statute of Christ of the Ozarks

Our big day was yet to come...the focus of our trip...the highlight of our tour...visiting the only complete life-size replica of the Tabernacle of Moses in the world! It was truly unique to get a visual perspective of what we have studied in the Scriptures.

I got to volunteer as the family leader

I then got to lead the group through the tour of the Tabernacle! What an honor!

I got to walk up the ramp to the brazen altar.

Here we are standing at the brazen laver.

We also got to see an authentic section of the Berlin Wall.

It was just totally awesome and I recommend any and all church groups to take this tour.

We also got to attend the outdoor drama of the Great Passion Play. It was a spectacular production of the last week of Christ's stay on earth.

With over 200 people in the cast and animals and chariots and props...truly this was an experience to be remembered.

We then got up early Sunday Morning and left Eureka Springs, Arkansas about 7:00 a.m. and arrived back in Pikeville, Kentucky about 1:30 a.m. (Tues. Morning)

We truly enjoyed our trip and look forward to doing it again in a couple of years. Our hats off to Freedom Tours, Josett Gibson (Tour Guide), Roland (Our Bus Driver; Cardinal Tours, Charleston, WV), and Rick (Our Bus Driver; Cardinal Tours, Charleston, WV). I would like to give a special thanks to Phyllis White, our Church Activity Director, who made all the arrangements in getting this trip ready. And thanks to all the congregation, kids, and those from other churches for making this trip a success!

Those who went on the trip presented Rev. Richard D. McKinney with a beautiful oil painting purchased on the grounds of the Holy Land Tour.

It was one in which Bro. McKinney had seen in a Bible Book Store in West Virginia about a year prior to this trip. It is a picture of a man standing in the door of the Lighthouse that is surrounded by crashing waves. On the bottom is written the Scripture found in Psalms 18:2 "The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower."

Thanks to all! I know the price you paid! You shouldn't have, but I will always be grateful for such a treasure.
